Happy New Year! My long awaited Christmas vacation was over all too quickly. I had a great time visiting family and friends, especially connecting with my good friend Janis, from the old B&M grocery checking days. Wow, that was a few years ago! It was beyond wonderful to spend time with son Andy and his girlfriend Angela. Next I look forward to spring break the first week of March.
This past weekend there were three dog sled races in Bethel: the Bogus Creek 150, the K300 and the Akiak Dash. There were 21 mushers competing in the state’s premier mid-distance dog sled race, the K300. 20 teams finished and the first place winner, Martin Buser, won $20,000. I’ve posted pictures taken by myself and Jennifer White, and anyone wanting to read more about the races can visit the race website: www.k300.org. The K300 started at 6:30 pm Friday night and it was fun to be out on the river with hundreds of people, cars and snow machines! I enjoyed the opportunity to photograph the crowds and the dogs. It snowed for a short time but tapered off in time for the fireworks, and it was in the teens so very comfortable weather to be outside. The K300 winner crossed the finish line at 2:22 pm Sunday afternoon. As of this morning there were still two teams racing. Thats determination!
